Thursday, June 27, is Wawa Hoagie Day! As part of Wawa Welcome America, Wawa’s signature event is more exciting than ever. This special day is a heartfelt salute to local and national heroes while enjoying delicious Wawa hoagies and FREE admission to the National Constitution Center.
Starting at 5 am, Wawa employees assembled a massive 7-ton hoagie at the National Constitution Center, totaling 25,000 hoagies. While employees are assembling hoagies, they’re joined by a DJ, media personalities, and Wally the Goose. The first 10,000 hoagies are generously being donated to Philabundance, the Veteran’s Multi-Service Center, and PAL (Police Athletic League). The remaining 15,000 hoagies are distributed at noon on Arch Street, between 5th and 6th Streets. This year’s Hoagie Day morning build marks the milestone of reaching the 80,000th hoagie donated to Philabundance as part of Hoagie Day giving back.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Wawa for their dedicated support in addressing food insecurity in our region. This year alone, Wawa’s donation of over 7,500 hoagies directly benefits seven of our community partners: Broad Street Ministry, The Simple Way, Lutheran Settlement House, SisterHood Inc., Iglesia Cristiana Avivamiento, Small Things – Emanuel, and Cathedral Kitchen. These hoagies will be immediately distributed, providing essential nourishment to adults, children, families, and seniors in need.
In our region alone, over 600,000 people face food insecurity, marking a 25% increase from the previous year. This rise is attributed to inflation, forcing individuals to choose between paying rent or buying essential nutritious food. Wawa’s steadfast commitment allows Philabundance to sustain its crucial mission of eliminating hunger from our communities. As we honor four decades in the fight against hunger, we encourage you to join us in supporting those in need.
