Top Guac Competition 2024

In recognition of National Avocado Day, we teamed up with GIANT and Avocados from Mexico this morning at the Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK) for our 4th annual Top Guac competition. Judges included FOX 29’s Thomas Drayton, Ryan Fukuda, Regional Director at Avocados from Mexico, and Terra Pierce, HR business partner for GIANT. This year, our contestants consist of 4 graduates from PCK’s class #97.

In just 15 quick minutes contestants gathered all their ingredients to make their personal guacamole recipes! Past participants have used unique ingredients like yogurt, pineapples, tajin, and many more to make their recipes stand out. This year, the winner of the Top Guac competition goes to Kahiem Love-Miller and GIANT employee Joanna Renzulli, with a winning combination of mangoes, peaches, and lime juice, their recipe captivated the judges.

What’s the best part about this? In addition to the competition, The GIANT Company, in partnership with Avocados From Mexico, donated nearly 60,000 fresh avocadoes to Philabundance which were quickly delivered to communities across the Delaware Valley by our tremendous Transportation Team. This generous donation aligns well with our Good Food Policy, helping provide nutritious and culturally relevant food to the people we serve in our nine-county service area.

Thank you to GIANT and Avocados from Mexico for your generous avocado donation! Your support made this competition a huge success. We can’t wait to GUAC ON again next year!
