Partnership for Healthier America (PHA), along with PHA Honorary Chair Michelle Obama and Higher Ground Productions, recently announced that the ‘Pass the Love w/ Waffles + Mochi’ campaign has surpassed its goal of distributing one million healthy meals to families facing food insecurity around the country.
‘Pass the Love’, which provided families with meal kits featuring recipes and ingredients inspired by the Netflix series Waffles + Mochi, began distributions in the spring of 2021. Since then, the campaign has impacted over 20,000 families combined in Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Fresno with 1,008,000 meals.
Last August, Philabundance distributed 240,000 of the one million healthy meal kits. Over the course of 4 weeks in August, Philabundance partnered with 25 locations to distribute the meals to 5,000 families in need throughout the Philadelphia area.
“The economic crisis that accompanied the pandemic has renewed the focus on making sure that struggling families with children have the resources they need to put high-quality, nutritious food on the table for their children,” said Loree D. Jones, CEO of Philabundance. “It is outrageous that children go to bed hunger in a country of such vast wealth. That’s why Pass the Love and our collaboration with Partnership for a Healthier America are so important at this time.”
