Justice for the Hungry

Will you join us in seeking Justice for the Hungry?

The Justice for the Hungry campaign was established in 2021 as a response to the incredible rise in the rate of hunger in our region. This challenge calls on the legal community to band together by pledging support to Philabundance to drive hunger from our communities. We are now facing an even greater challenge with the rising costs of food and fuel impacting not only the people experiencing food insecurity, but also organizations like Philabundance.

Here are a few facts to put the prevalence of hunger into perspective, according to the latest data released by Feeding America. In 2020:

  • 10.5%, or 1 in 10, people were food insecure in the Philabundance service area overall. This is an increase of one percentage point from 2019.

  • Overall child food insecurity increased 25% from a rate of 13.8% in 2019 to 17.3% in 2020.

  • In Philadelphia County specifically, food insecurity went from 14.4% in 2019 to 15.8% in 2020.

Are you up for the challenge to help us lower these numbers?

This year’s Justice for the Hungry challenge, starting March 11th and ending May 31st, will center around a points-based fundraising system where each participating firm will to work to earn points by making corporate gifts, hosting food drives, raising individual funds, and volunteering. At the end of the campaign, there will be an awards ceremony announcing the winners of this challenge.
