Football Rivalry Ignites Fundraising Challenge to Tackle Hunger
The Philadelphia and Washington, DC football teams are set to clash this Sunday, January 26th, 2025, in what promises to be an exciting game—but the rivalry doesn’t stop there. Philabundance and the Capital Area Food Bank are channeling the excitement of this matchup into a meaningful cause with the Huddle to End Hunger Challenge!
Starting today, Thursday, January 23rd, and running through 11:59 PM on Sunday, January 26, this friendly competition invites fans from both cities to rally behind their teams and make a real difference by raising funds to fight hunger in their communities.
Why It Matters
Food insecurity remains a critical issue in the Philadelphia region, Washington, DC, and beyond. Rising food costs and increasing demand for support have put additional strain on food banks across the country. That’s why Philabundance and the Capital Area Food Bank are taking this opportunity to spotlight the urgency of hunger relief and inspire action.
Every dollar raised during the challenge will go directly toward providing meals and support to families in need. Whether you’re a die-hard Philadelphia fan, a loyal Washington football supporter, or just someone passionate about ending hunger, this is your chance to be part of something bigger.
How the Challenge Works
The rules are simple: Philabundance and Capital Area Food Bank are racing to see which food bank can raise the most funds between January 23rd and 11:59 PM on January 26th, 2025. The food bank that comes out on top earns ultimate bragging rights and the satisfaction of knowing their city stepped up for the cause.
But there’s a fun twist—the CEO of the losing food bank will wear the opposing team’s branded gear, including hats and t-shirts, in a lighthearted show of sportsmanship and unity.
Join the Huddle
“This challenge is about more than a rivalry—it’s about rallying together to make a difference,” said Loree Jones Brown, CEO of Philabundance. “At the end of the day, the real winners are the individuals and families we’ll be able to serve thanks to this challenge.”
Radha Muthiah, CEO of Capital Area Food Bank, shares: ” We know our region is full of people who care deeply about their neighbors. We also know those same people love a good competition, especially when it comes to our sports teams! The Huddle to End Hunger Challenge provides a perfect opportunity for both of those instincts to shine by turning a fierce football rivalry into a meaningful way to support families in need. Fans of both teams—and anyone passionate about hunger relief—are invited to participate and make a difference for our neighbors both today and into the future.”
