50,000 Meals this September

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Philabundance to Raise 50,000 Meals this September for Hunger Action Month

Philadelphia, PA, (September 4, 2018)—September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about hunger and mobilize the public to take action. With 1 in 5 people in our area struggling with food insecurity, Philabundance aims to raise enough money to provide 50,000 meals for our neighbors in need throughout the month of September.

To raise awareness of, and funds for, the hunger crisis in our communities, Philabundance’s Hunger Action Month efforts include:

  • From September 1-30, our generous sponsors, Joe and Carole Christ, Kampus Klothes, PECO and PJM Interconnection, will match individuals’ donations dollar for dollar. Usually, a $1 donation provides two meals to help feed those in need, but in September, $1 will provide four

  • You can join the fight to drive hunger from our communities today, and end hunger forever, by dining with one of our restaurant partners! The following restaurants will donate a portion of proceeds to Philabundance on Wednesday, September 12:

Bar Hygge Habit Burger Grill, Cherry Hill, NJ
Bourbon Blue Hunger Burger

By George Moonshine Philly
Earth, Bread & Brewery The Farmer’s Keep Pour House, North Wales
The Farmer’s Keep  South Restaurant

  • September 14 is Hunger Action Day! To provide donors and supporters with a glimpse into the life of someone struggling with food insecurity, Philabundance is hosting a simulation called Hunger 101. During the simulation, attendees will be given personas of food insecure individuals with various circumstances. From grocery shopping on a tight budget to waiting in line at a social service agency, attendees will experience what is reality for 1 in 5 Philadelphians. The event is by invitation only and limited press passes are available.

  • Thanks to grants from the Dunkin Donuts Joy in Childhood Foundation and the BJ’s Foundation, Philabundance is happy to announce the launch of a new free produce distribution at Dobbins High School that is open to the public. This distribution “opens its doors” to those in need on September 5. On Wednesday, September 19, Media is invited to attend a distribution and speak with community members about this new resource.

And for low to no income adults looking for a new path in life, Philabundance Community Kitchen culinary arts job training program will hold open houses on September 5, 12 and 19 to recruit new students for its 14-week program.
