The decision to donate to a local non profit organization such as a hunger nonprofit is a noble one, but it’s natural to want to know where the money is going, how the organization combats the issue it claims to address, and if the contribution is tax deductible, among others.
Here are a few things to consider when looking for the most effective charities in your area.
What to Look for in a Local Non Profit
At Philabundance, the enemy is food insecurity. And since this is an issue that affects individuals in literally every ZIP code in the United States, donating to a food charity means that your contribution can help your very neighbors.
How Does the Charity for Hunger Operate?
Philabundance is proud of our nine-county service area that assists food insecure individuals and families in our communities. We have over 330 partners and work with retailers, businesses, houses of worship, food service establishments, and even the Philadelphia International Airport.
In addition to distributing millions of pounds of food (and meals) to those in our service area every year, we also save food from going to waste through our Retail Rescue program.
Philabundance is also flexible in how it accepts donations. Not only do we accept corporate donations and gifts of money, but you can donate food and scheduling a dropoff with us is easy.
In addition, Philabundance, through the Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK), helps its students with increased employability and hope through training, support, and practical experience. Filling contracted orders, catering events, and producing meals for our neighbors. .
Through these programs and other initiatives, our charity for hunger is helping to ease insecurity in our service area, offer our neighbors opportunities to volunteer and build better, stronger communities, as well as helping develop the aspiring with life skills.
In these ways and in others, Philabundance doesn’t just feed the City of Brotherly Love (and the surrounding areas) but prepares individuals to improve their lives.
