For 40 years, Philabundance has come together with our community partners to meet the increased need that always comes around the end of the year. Knowing that the holiday season can bring additional challenges and uncertainty for those facing food insecurity, we are focused on making sure those we serve can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones.
As we continue to get millions of pounds of food out each week across our nine-county region, our 350 community partners will have access to an increased amount of Thanksgiving items, including almost 40,000 pounds of protein, 200,000 holiday sides, and 4,500 meals prepared by our chefs at the Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK).
We are also hosting our Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution, which will allow us to connect directly with our neighbors to serve 1,000 turkey and other poultry items, as well as sides like cranberry sauce, stuffing, and green beans. For the second year in a row, the Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution will also serve as a community resource fair, bringing together organizations throughout the city so our neighbors can learn about additional resources, including the PCK culinary training program, that may be available in addition to the immediate need of food. The distribution allows us to connect directly with our neighbors to address the immediate need of hunger and provide support and resources to help end hunger for good.
“There is greater disparity, greater food insecurity. People are suffering. It’s hard. There has been an increase in people coming to the food bank – an influx of people just trying to make ends meet,” said Beverly Terrence, Food Pantry Manager at Grace Community Christian Center. “To be able to come and get emergency food – that’s a great help,”
If you’d like to support those in your community facing hunger this Thanksgiving, you can make a donation securely online or sign up to volunteer with us. All gifts made through Thanksgiving Day, up to $10,000, will be matched by the Gene and Marlene Epstein Humanitarian Fund, doubling the impact of your gift.
