Philabundance Announces Four New Members to its Board of Directors
Philadelphia, PA – January 26, 2021 – Philabundance, a local hunger relief organization committed to driving hunger from our communities today and ending hunger for good, is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors: Dr. Adele Lindenmeyr of Villanova University and Estelle Richman, formerly of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In addition, two distinguished former Board members are returning to the board: Dr. Cheryl Martin of Hardwich Partners and David J. Miller, formerly of JGWPT Holdings, Inc.

These four amazing individuals bring a diverse set of skills, life experiences and perspectives along with a vast history of public service and personal accomplishment to our mission of ending hunger in the Delaware Valley. Together, they provide assistance Philabundance needs to face the increased challenges in our community caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Philabundance Board Chair John Hollway. “I look forward to collaborating with these agents of change in the fight against hunger.”

New Board Members:
Dr. Cheryl Martin is the founder of Harwich Partners, a consulting firm developed to engage public and private sector entities on implementation of solutions for complex problems, especially those related to energy, sustainability, urban development and technology adoption. She was a member of the Managing Board at the World Economic Forum. Previously Dr. Martin served as the Acting Director of the US Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy and was agency’s Deputy Director for Commercialization. She spent 20 years with Rohm and Haas Company in roles ranging from technology development to finance and business management and where, most recently, she had been the General Manager for the Paint and Coatings business in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Dr. Martin earned a B.A. in chemistry from the College of the Holy Cross, where she currently serves on the Board of Trustees, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from MIT. Dr. Martin serves as the chair of the Board of Directors for Sound Agriculture, an early stage sustainable agriculture technology company, as well as on the Boards for the Clean Energy Trust and Elemental Excelerator.
Dr. Martin previously served on our board from 2011 through 2017.
Dr. Adele Lindenmeyr is the dean of Villanova University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Having started her career at Villanova in 1987, Dr. Lindenmeyr is a tenured professor and has previously served as dean of graduate studies for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the chairperson of the history department. She earned her B.A. in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Pennsylvania and her Ph.D. in History from Princeton University. A co-founder of the Friends of Schuylkill River Park, she served as its first president. Dr. Lindenmeyr is also a member of the Advisory Board of Women International Leaders of Greater Philadelphia.
Dr. Lindenmeyr has been a Philabundance donor since 1994. She has served on the operations committee of the board since 2019 and joined the development committee in July 2020.
David J. Miller is a retired senior executive, and board member who currently serves on five company boards where he holds various positions including Chairman of J.G Wentworth. He served as a Senior Advisor to the Blackstone Tactical Opportunities Fund and as CEO and Chairman of JGWPT Inc. (the holding company for J.G.Wentworth and Peachtree). Prior to JGWPT, Mr. Miller was an insurance executive serving as Executive Vice-President for Ace’s International Accident and Health Insurance Business, as President and CEO of Kemper Auto and Home Insurance, and as COO of Providian Direct Insurance. Mr. Miller began his insurance career with Progressive Insurance where he held various positions. Mr. Miller has been a donor to Philabundance since 1994 and previously served on our board from 2002 through 2009 and also served as chair of the board.
Mr. Miller has a BSEE in electrical engineering from Duke University and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Miller was a member of the NYSE.
Estelle Richman is the former secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (2003-2010) and recently retired as senior advisor to the Secretary of HUD for health and human services issues. Prior to her tenure at HUD, Richman dedicated more than 30 years to public service at the state and local levels, including serving as the managing director and commissioner of public health for the City of Philadelphia. In 2016, she was appointed by Governor Wolf to the Philadelphia School Reform Commission.
Ms. Richman has been honored for her advocacy efforts by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Medical Association, among others. She serves as Chair of the Board of the national non-profit, Center for Health Care Strategies, and serves on the boards of Preservation of Affordable Housing and the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Richman earned her undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University, master’s degree from Cleveland State University and has honorary doctorates from Alvernia University and Drexel University.
