Philabundance to Spread the Love to Families Spread too Thin
Two generous donors will match jars of peanut butter / dollars donated throughout February
Philadelphia, PA (February 1, 2018) — Philabundance and its partners are looking to Spread the Love to children and families facing hunger throughout the month of February. The 8th annual Spread the Love campaign aims to collect 25,000 jars of peanut butter, providing children with a nutritious, kid-friendly food that is high in protein, but can often be too expensive for families struggling to make ends meet.
Thanks to the legacy of William Ridge “Bill” Roderick and an anonymous donor, the community’s impact will be doubled, with up to $10,000 in donations being matched through February 28. Since Philabundance buys items in bulk, it is able to stretch donations 2-3 times further than an individual, allowing for more peanut butter to be purchased, and in turn, helping more children in need. On Tuesday, February 27 at 10:00 am, Philabundance will host a press event with students from the Friends’ Central School’s Service Committee. This group of students dedicated to serving their community will drop off jars of peanut butter collected during their school-wide service initiative and help hundreds of kids by sorting through donations of peanut butter and other items.
“Philabundance serves 90,000 people a week who are at risk for hunger, and sadly, children make up one third of that population,” said Glenn Bergman, Executive Director of Philabundance. “Our Spread the Love Campaign not only helps raise awareness on the crisis of childhood hunger in our area, but it also increases donations, allowing us to buy peanut butter by the thousands and feed thousands of children and families.”
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, if a donation is made in honor of a friend or loved one, Philabundance will send that person a tribute Valentine via mail or email. Tribute Valentine’s will be available all month long.
